It comes, each year, either as something fresh ‘you’ve never heard it put this way before’ or with a familiar ring which you’ve been avoiding but you know you ought to answer. Either way, it could be life-changing when you respond to it, the choice will be yours.

Let me give you some clues to help you recognise the invitation. It will be directed to you; in ways you can understand it and with a simplicity that you can respond to it. It will be a personal invitation that comes with love. There will be no strings. It’s something you could never earn and when you understand it, you’ll realise you don’t deserve it.

If you do respond to it, you’ll find the invitation will involve you in ‘travel’. Now, some people enjoy ‘going places’ and others prefer ‘security’ the same old things. Let me explain – the ‘travel’ will most definitely be inward and transformative, and could be costly, but new horizons are likely to open up for you as well.

I responded to this invitation to a ‘new relationship’ as a teenager. Like many other people who’ve responded to the invitation, I’ve been in this relationship through thick and thin. It inspires the way I love and care for other people. It informs every part of the way I live my life, fills me with love, joy, hope and purpose.

This Easter, listen carefully for the words of Jesus calling to you.

Take Care ...
